absolute value represents distance
specifically the distance a number is from 0 on the number line
OpenStudy (anonymous):
can i give you a problem so you can explain it to me
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
example:
|-7| = 7 means that the number -7 is seven units from zero on the number line

so on the left side, we have 2 times |x-3|
the 2 next to the bar implies multiplication
OpenStudy (anonymous):
am i supposed to set up two equations with the answer as a negitive on one and then the other as is orrrrrr ?
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
undoing the multiplication means we divide both sides by 2
after doing that we will get |x-3| > 4
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
make sense so far?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
no it doesnt ):

OpenStudy (anonymous):
can you call me and explain orrrrrrrrr would you rather explain it on here ?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
divide both sides by 2 right ?
