The answers are found because the half note (note with an empty head) is worth two beats, the quarter note (note with filled head) is worth 1 beat, and the squiggly line is a quarter rest worth 1 beat, the quarter note with a flag at the end of the stem is a , which is worth half a beat, is called an eighth note, the one with two flags overlaying eachother is a sixteenth note, worth .25 of a beat. The whole note (empty circle) is worth 4 beats.
