Identify the objective complement in the following sentence. Carlos and Hilda sanded the old bicycle’s metal frame, painted it red, and gave it to Justin for his birthday. I personally believe it is red since it complements the subject, am I correct? Just want a quick and detailed verification.
yes you are correct because it is like you said complementing the subject. the bike is the subject and red it the complement
The thing that troubles me though, is that I know that the objective complement comes right after the direct object, so wouldn't "it" after the word painted also be a nominee?
I am honestly fairly skeptical about that choice but just wanted to be sure.
The answer was in fact, red, thank you for your help michealac959.
