WILL FAN AND MEDAL! MULTIPLE CHOICE

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sure?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry, this is like the one thing in math I'm not so great at.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lol it doesnt let me upload the pictures right away its weird;-p @MathleticMagician

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh its all good:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@aida1997jallad could you maybe help? ill medal:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@texaschic101 maybe you can help?:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@valleygirl hi could you help? ill fan and medal if its right:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sure what do you need help on?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@valleygirl i dont know the answer:(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what are the question to the answers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@valleygirl which of these rules is represented by the graph, its in the first pic;)

OpenStudy (danjs):

Since the graph is discontinuous with that jump in it, you need a piecewise defined function to include everything

OpenStudy (danjs):

recall an open circle at the end means that value is not included, a closed dot means that value is included at x=1, the value is y=2

OpenStudy (danjs):

i think you usually list the pieces by increasing x values, start on the left side and list the equations for those lines

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh I see I know the answer to your problem. But we need to solve it

OpenStudy (danjs):

solve what?, all i see is they want you to write the function down

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its the fourth one right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no that's not what I mean I mean that you have to figure out which ways on how its going on the graph

OpenStudy (danjs):

the first is easy, horizontal line constant y value, y = -3 that part of the graph is for all values Less Than 1, (open circle)

OpenStudy (danjs):

y=-3 if x<1

OpenStudy (danjs):

the second part , you have to figure the equation for that slanted line

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhhh its the second option then right!!!

OpenStudy (danjs):

not quite, notice the slope there is positive, the line has a negative slope

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that would leave the first one?

OpenStudy (danjs):

The slope of the slant is m = -1 Use any point on the slant (x1 , y1) = (3,0) put the line together, y - y1 = m*(x - x1) y - 0 = -1*(x-3)

OpenStudy (danjs):

y = -x + 3 for x is greater or equal to 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks so much:)

OpenStudy (danjs):

welcome
