Some one help me solve this problem. I have the answer. What is the next term in the geometric sequence 16, –4, 1, – 1/4 , … ? A. – 1/8 B. 0 C. 1/16 D. 1/8 E. 1/2

OpenStudy (freckles):

since this is a geometric sequence then it means it has to have a common ratio the common ratio can be found by dividing a term by it's previous term

OpenStudy (freckles):

so the next entry can be found by multiplying the term before by the common ratio

OpenStudy (triciaal):

saying the same thing but using different words to get from the first term to the second term multiply by the common ratio, r to get from the second term to the third term multiply by the common ratio, r to get from one term to the next consecutive term multiply by the common ratio, r
