the sum of three consecutive integers is 39.find the three integers. (cant seem to get it )

OpenStudy (anonymous):

consecutive means that there is a difference of 1 between them example of 3 consecutive integers is 1, 2, 3

OpenStudy (infiniite):

Here's a trick if you ever encounter a problem involving sum of consecutive integers. Let's say your smallest integer is "a". Because they're consecutive, the second integer would be "a+1," and the third integer would be "a+2." This would then give you a+a+1+a+2 = 3a+3. Set that equal to 39 and tackle it from there.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So then you'd have to set up an equation like this x+(x+1)+(x+2)=39

thank you :)
