help, will medal! Enlightenment philosophers such as John Locke and Jean Jacques Rousseau wrote that the relationship between citizens and their government was a social contract. Describe the social contract and explain how this idea impacted one of the following: American Revolution, French Revolution, or the Latin American Revolution.
hope this helps Social contract theory is based on the idea of a contractual agreement between the individual and the state, under which the power of the sovereign is justified by a hypothetical social contract in which the people agree to obey in all matters in return for a guarantee of peace and security, which they lack in the warlike "state of nature" posited to exist before the contract is made. John Locke's social contract theory was that people are endowed with the rights of Life, Liberty, and Property. Locke said it was the governments job to protect these natural rights, and that the government's power should come from the consent of the governed (popular sovereignty). These ideas were used in the Declaration of Independence and later became some of the main reasons for the American Revolutionary War.
