OpenStudy (narissa):

Jessica solved the problem below. a. Find the first error she made and circle it (there may be more than one mistake!) −4 ÷23 = −4 ∙ 23 = −41 ∙ 23 = −83=−223 b. Write a sentence stating the error Jessica made c. Redo the problem correctly showing all steps of your work. −4 ÷23 =

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Was that the exact wrong equation or do you have a picture of it?

@jim_thompson5910 I don't know how to do this problem. So i can't help @narissa with this

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Jessica forgot to flip the second fraction when she changed to multiplication

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

it should be this \[\Large -4 \div \frac{2}{3} = -4 \times \frac{3}{2}\]

OpenStudy (narissa):

Thanks so much XD

OpenStudy (narissa):

Is that it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wow @jim_thompson5910 It made much more sense after you explained it O:

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

the rest of Jessica's steps would be correct if she flipped the second fraction you turn -4 into -4/1, multiply straight across, reduce if possible, convert to a mixed number if needed

OpenStudy (narissa):

So thats what i write is the steps

OpenStudy (narissa):

@jim_thompson5910

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yeah that's the basic outline you follow
