Write an equation of the line with the given characteristics. passes through (1, –4); parallel to y = –3x + 8 I have no idea how to do this, honestly. Please help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so would u like me to explain

OpenStudy (beatboxingfetus):

Yeah, please.

OpenStudy (beatboxingfetus):

@foxtrot

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that should help

OpenStudy (error1603):

a

OpenStudy (beatboxingfetus):

A?

OpenStudy (mathmate):

@beatboxingfetus Parallel to means same slope. Find the slope of the line "parallel to" from y = –3x + 8. Say the slope of the line equals m. The line through a point (x1,y1) with slope m is given by: (y-y1)=m(x-x1).....................(1) Since m, x1, y1 are all given in the question, so the required line can be found using equation (1) above.

Thank you !

You're welcome! :)
