PLEASE HELP WITH A FEW SCIENCE QUESTIONS (: 1. explain how Doppler radar works. Describe the properties of electromagnetic waves and interactions that make Doppler radar possible.
2. In your own words, explain how polarized sunglasses work. Describe the properties of electromagnetic waves and interactions that this technology targets.
3. In your own words, explain why we see a rainbow or colorful sunset. Explain the properties and interactions that make this display possible.
4. Discuss the dual nature of electromagnetic waves and how they travel in a vacuum and through a medium.
thats all the questions
1. Doppler radar is a device that makes use of the doppler effect to produce velocity data about objects at a distance.... It does this by beaming a microwave signal towards a desired target and listening for its reflection, then analyzing how the original signal has been altered by the objects that reflected it. Variations in the frequency of the signal give direct and highly accurate measurements of a target's velocity relative to the radar source and the direction of the microwave beam. Doppler radars are used in aviation, sounding satellites, police speed guns, and radiology. The specific term "Doppler Radar", due in part to its extremely common use by television meteorologists in on-air weather reporting, has erroneously become popularly synonymous with the type of radar used in meteorology. Most modern weather radars use the pulse-doppler technique to examine the motion of precipitation, but it is only a part of the processing of their data. So, while these radars use a highly specialized form of doppler radar, the term is much broader in its meaning and its applications.
2. light is an electromagnetic wave in which vibration takes place in all direction. the polarizing sunglass limit the vibrations in one direction ( or more precisely in one plane) only. Sunglasses use " dichroism " i.e the selective absorption to filter out the vibrations of EM waves. Selective absorption means while going through the medium the vibrations split in two parts one part is allowed to pass through while the other is being absorbed.
3. a rainbow is made by hanging drops of water in air after raining and sun rays diffracts to give a spectrum that's called rainbow just like prism effect. . .colourful sunset is resulted due to bending of light because of light has to travel more into earth atmosphere so except red part of light rest get scattered away and we seee only red light. . .
4. The dual nature of electromagnetic waves is that they can behave as a wave and also as a particle (a photon). As a wave, when they travel from a vacuum into a medium, the medium causes the light to travel slower (c = 3.00 x 10^8 m/s in a vacuum). The slower speed causes the light to bend, or refract, as it enters the medium. An example of light acting as a particle is the photoelectric effect. Photons hitting a metal plate will cause electrons to be released, if the photon transfers the right amount of energy.....
hope this helps :)
@grabill this helps so much! thank you! (:
