how would you factor out , 3x^2+3x-60

OpenStudy (idealist10):

3x^2+3x-60 factor out the 3 first, 3(x^2+x-20) then factor out the trinomial x^2+x-20, 3(x+5)(x-4). Answer: 3(x+5)(x-4). To factor out the trinomial, you just find 2 numbers that when they multiply, you get the third term and when you add them, you get the second term. 5 times -4 gives you -20 and when 5+(-4)=1, which gives you the second term x.
