Help! I keep working it out, but I cannot get any of the answer choices!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Your answer is A. (2x - 4)^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(2x - 4)(2x - 4) (4x^2 - 8x - 8x + 16) (4x^2 - 16x + 16)

Thank you alot !!Is there a way to work it out step by step? (Besides just checking the answers?)

OpenStudy (phi):

If I was factoring it I would factor out a 4 4(x^2 - 4x +4) next I would factor x^2 -4x + 4 the +4 means both value are the same sign. the -4x means they are negative now I list the factors for the +4, and make them both negative: -1,-4 -2,-2 and add them up if we get -4, we found the factors. that means -2 and -2 are the factors, and we have 4(x-2)(x-2) that looks different from your answers, but we can write it like this: 2*(x-2) * 2*(x-2) and distribute the 2's to get (2x-4) * (2x-4) and finally (2x-4)^2

OpenStudy (bookworm14):

That is exactly what I got, I just could not figure out how on Earth they went from a 4 to a 2 in the beginning! Thank you for the explanations yall! I understand the question now!
