If y=(x^3+1)^2 then dy/dx=?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Hey :)\[\large\rm y=(x^3+1)^2\]Power rule on the `outer function`: ( )^2 becomes 2( ) Then we apply chain rule:\[\large\rm y'=2(x^3+1)\color{royalblue}{(x^3+1)'}\]Chain rule says, multiply by the derivative of the inside. So this blue and prime is showing that we still need to take this derivative.
