OpenStudy (jango_in_dtown):

the curve cuts the x axis at the points -1,1,3 so it is cubic the equation is (x+1)(x-1)(x-3)=0 i.e (X^2-1)(x-3)=0 i.e. x^3-3x^2-x+3=0

OpenStudy (amistre64):

well, any scaled version of that has the same roots ... k(x+1)(x-1)(x-3)=0 is the family of cubics with those roots.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

when x=0 it appears we are at 3 so k=1 is a fair assumption
