In Daniel chapter 5 why did king Belshazzar die?

OpenStudy (kenljw):

Aside from the evident reason given in the in the text, and the prophetic writing on the wall, The king did not do as Daniel asked in what he wanted for repayment. "Thou art weighed in balances and art found wanting" is prudent in respect to salvation today, in that a person may be able to turn their life around becoming more of a benefit, hence tipping the scales of the balance.

The answer is in verses 22-23. I would say mainly because of pride and disrespect.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

I like to think of it in terms of intent, such as "praying with real intent" - a common phrase. If you pray with real intent then you fully intend to do what God tells you to do. Other types of prayer and interaction with God don't go so well.
