Solve for x: |x + 2| + 16 = 14 x = −32 and x = −4 x = −4 and x = 0 x = 0 and x = 28 No solution

OpenStudy (amistre64):

16 + what is 14?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nothing.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lol. No solution?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

well, -2 16 - 2 = 14

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

and since an absolute value only measures postive results ... -2 is not obtainable

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, okay. So it's no solution?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

by graph, we would see that |x+2| is sitting on or above y=16 so it never interacts with y=14 there is no real solution

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wow. That was easy. Thanks! :)
