Got this from the net: Major difference between direct and indirect proofs is that in indirect, you are proving one of the givens is true when it is wrong. IN indirect you make an assumption based on what the prove statement says; like you assume the opposite of what the proof statement says. The assumption should lead you to a Contradiction in your steps (ex: if two sides aren't suppose to be equal but after you state the assumption and they happen to be true, then your assumption is false and there is a contradiction). The number of steps in each problem vary from problem to problem
