Imagine the experience of a young Chinese man arriving at Angel Island. How was that different from the experience of a middle-aged Mexican woman crossing the Rio Grande or a Russian Jewish child entering the United States through Ellis Island? Between 1865 and 1920 almost 30 million immigrants entered the United States. Each of those immigrants had a story to tell. What did they leave behind? How did they travel to the United States? How were they welcomed? How did they adapt to life in the United States? Each story is different.
