OpenStudy (knowledge):

Are lines subspaces of R^2

OpenStudy (amistre64):

what defines a sub'space'?

OpenStudy (knowledge):

A subspace is a nonempty subset \[V \subset \mathbb{R} ^{n} \] if when vectors x, y\[x, y \in V, a \in R\], then \[x+y \in V, ax \in V\]

OpenStudy (amistre64):

isnt there something about the zero vector? subspaces have to pass thru the origin ... and not all lines do that do they?

OpenStudy (knowledge):

yeah that is right, okay thanks
