What furnishes the centripetal force needed to make your car go around a curve instead of straight? When the road is wet what happens to this force?

OpenStudy (badhi):

the friction between the tires and the road

OpenStudy (anonymous):

^ yup, also depends if the road is banked(angled) :)

OpenStudy (badhi):

oh yeah.. then the gravity of the vehicle supports it too..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Centripetal force is a pseudo force which is balanced by friction of moving body with surface

OpenStudy (mrnood):

@Anirud Centripetal force is an ACTUAL force, acting towards the centre of the curved path and cause accelration towards the centre. (CentriFUGAL force however is not a true force and is used incorrectly by many people. )The acceleration is TOWARDS the centre and requires centripetal force to move in the curved path
