Centripetal force is an ACTUAL force, acting towards the centre of the curved path and cause accelration towards the centre.
(CentriFUGAL force however is not a true force and is used incorrectly by many people. )The acceleration is TOWARDS the centre and requires centripetal force to move in the curved path
