What is a Kilowatt?

OpenStudy (ybarrap):

A watt is a measure of work in units of energy per unit time. In contrast to energy like a battery just sitting on the shelf, which does no work until it is plugged into something electronic. Once plugged in to, say a flashlight, the device begins to consume this energy and now work is being done -- energy is getting withdrawn from the battery every second. We say the battery is NOW doing work NOT just storing energy. "kilo" means 1000 so a kilowatt is 1000 watts.

OpenStudy (foojava):

a measure of 1,000 watts of electrical power.
