Points C and D lie on graph of the equation y=1.3x. What are the y-coordinates for each point? Point C: (3,__) Point D: (−6,__)

@malcolmmcswain

OpenStudy (malcolmmcswain):

Ok, so if we know x, it's easy to solve for y. All we have to do is plug it into the equation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

My possible answers were point c (3,3.9) point d (-6,-7.8)

OpenStudy (malcolmmcswain):

For C: y=1.3x y=(1.3)(3) y=3.9 So, C: (3,3.9)

OpenStudy (malcolmmcswain):

So C is correct! Good job! Now let's find D

OpenStudy (malcolmmcswain):

For D: y=1.3x y=(1.3)(-6) y=-7.8 So, D: (-6,-7.8)

OpenStudy (malcolmmcswain):

Awesome! You got them all right!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yay i got them right!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you help me with a few more?

OpenStudy (malcolmmcswain):

Do you understand how to solve for it now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i do!

OpenStudy (malcolmmcswain):

I'd be happy to help you with some more! If I'm helping you, I hate to bug you, but a medal means a lot to me, it helps boost my score and gives me motivation to answer more problems, and all you have to do is press a button. So, if I'm helping you, please press the "best response" button next to my name!

Cora is graphing the equation y = 12x. She has placed a point on the origin and uses the slope to find 2 more points. Which points does Cora plot on her graph? Choose exactly two answers that are correct. A. (−1, −12) B. (−12, −1) C. (1, 12) D. (12, 1) and ok ill give you a medal!

OpenStudy (malcolmmcswain):

Ok, so all we have to do here is what we did in the above question. In this case we know both y and x, so we just have to find which of these work out.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok i thought i had to write down a whole graph thingy! XD

OpenStudy (malcolmmcswain):

For A: x=-1, y=-12 Our equation is: y=12x So, our question is, does 12 times -1 = -12? Yes, it does! So A. is a solution to the graph y=12x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thx but theres more than one answer though

OpenStudy (malcolmmcswain):

For B: x=-12, y=-1 Our equation is: y=12x So, our question is, does 12 times -12 = -1? No, it doesn't... :( So B. is not a solution to the graph y=12x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh i thought you did know ( that there were more answers) XD

OpenStudy (malcolmmcswain):

For C: x=1, y=12 Our equation is: y=12x So, our question is, does 1 times 12 = 12? Yes, it does! So C. is a solution to the graph y=12x!

OpenStudy (malcolmmcswain):

We've found them all! But just to be sure, let's do D.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then that means that d is not answer

OpenStudy (malcolmmcswain):

For D: x=12, y=1 Our equation is: y=12x So, our question is, does 12 times 12 = 1? No it doesn't! We did it!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have got 3 more questions for you if you dont mind! if you want i can also open another question so you can get more medals!

OpenStudy (malcolmmcswain):

Please do! That would be great.

OpenStudy (malcolmmcswain):

I am always happy to help!
