help??? Darrell tried to solve the equation x2 + 10x = -9 by completing the square. His work and some of his answers are shown below. Each red blank, marked with a letter A, should be filled in with the same number. Each blue blank, marked with the letter B, should be filled in with the same expression. Each green blank, marked with the letter C, should be filled in with the same number. Enter the number, expression, and number that fill in blanks A, B, and C correctly. Separate your answers with commas, like this: 42, 3x-4, 53

OpenStudy (raven7266):

do you have a clue on how to do this problem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope not at all

OpenStudy (raven7266):

ok, first do you think x^2+10 can be factor?

OpenStudy (raven7266):

I mean the x^2+10x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes if it was equal to 0

OpenStudy (raven7266):

yes you can even the equal is =-9.. it should be like this if you factor it x(x+10)=-9

OpenStudy (raven7266):

you want me to do the rest? or you want to try to find B and C?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you do it i have not idea how to solve it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so -9 was A?

OpenStudy (raven7266):

you factor the x^2+10x and it showed as x(x+10x) so the A would be 10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (raven7266):

okay I'll do the rest then x^2+10x=-9 X(x+10)=-9 -10 -10 x(x)=-9-10 x(x)= -19 x^2=-19 sqrt(x^2) = sqrt (-19) x=sqrt(-19)

OpenStudy (raven7266):

so A= 10, B= x^2, and C= -19

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you!

OpenStudy (raven7266):

no problem, hope this explanation helps you understand it :)
