can someone help me with calculus? I have absolutely no idea how to do it. Im not posting the question yet. will post when someone is comitted. thanks

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Not how it works. You are the one who needs the commitment. Post your problem. Show YOUR best work and someone should help you.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so: \[f(x)=\frac{ 8 }{ 4-x } \] has a vertical asymptote at: y=8 x=4 x=8 y=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@netlopes1 can you help?

OpenStudy (netlopes1):

Please... wait, ok?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok sorry

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Where is the denominator zero without the numerator also being zero?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

You missed the "Show YOUR best work" part."

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is f(x) = 0?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nevermind

OpenStudy (netlopes1):

This is a rational function. More to the point, this is a fraction. Can you have a zero in the denominator of a fraction? No. So if I set the denominator of the above fraction equal to zero and solve, this will tell me the values that x cannot be 4, ok?

OpenStudy (netlopes1):

So, you can draw the vertical asymptote as a dashed line to remind you not to graph there, in our case a line x=4

OpenStudy (netlopes1):

Thanks for your trust....
