Which of the following equations has exactly one real solution? A. 9(x + 10) = 9x + 90 B. 8x + 10 = 8x - 20 C. 9x + 10 = 9x + 10 D. 8x + 10 = -9x - 20
@armyengineer225
You'll have to go through and solve each one. But luckily these are pretty easy to solve in your head.
Simplify the left hand side of the equation for number one. Once you do, you'll notice that both sides are identical, which means x can be anything. We don't want that. We can now cross of A as one of our answers
@sloppycanada we can cross out c also right?
Yes.
and i dont think d has an answer does it? i kinda understand how to subtract from buth sides but i dont fully get it
both sides*
@sloppycanada @armyengineer225
The correct answer is D
oh ok thx
Yes, D is the right answer. If you subtract 8x from both sides in B, you get 0 = a number, which means no solution.
A can be crossed off because the equations equal on both sides and the possibilities for what x can be are endless B is also false because the x's would just cancel out C is also false for that same reason
ok thanks guys :D
@armyengineer225 @jaeuni
First write what the full equation would look like once you distribute the 2 in front of (8 + 4x)
um can u explain how to do that my brain is dead... ive been doing home work for over 10 hours now
When you distribute numbers directly next to some values that are in parenthesis, you multiply that outside number with all the values inside |dw:1445832102527:dw|
