OpenStudy (chris215):

To two decimal places, find the value of k that will make the function f(x) continuous everywhere.

OpenStudy (chris215):

OpenStudy (chris215):

a. 11.00 b. -2.47 c. -0.47 d. None of these d right?

OpenStudy (phi):

no, not choice d

OpenStudy (chris215):

what y?

OpenStudy (chris215):

-0.47?

OpenStudy (phi):

continuous means no "jumps" the two lines y= 3x+k and y = kx^2-5 must "match up" at x= -4 i.e. have the same y value in other words we need 3x+ k = k x^2 - 5 when x= -4 that means -12 + k = 16k - 5 -7 = 15 k -7/15 = k

OpenStudy (chris215):

thank you
