For the first problem, look at the denominators (x + 3) and (x + 5). (x + 3) and (x + 5) cannot be equal to zero as division by zero is not allow. x + 3 = 0 x = ? is one restricted value of x (x + 5) = 0 x = ? is the other restricted value of x. @Redlink12
