Why did the Framers of the Constitution create a mechanism for amending the Constitution but then make it very difficult to actually make any changes?

The reason behind this most likely was to protect the liberties of the American people. They couldn't predict everything that would happen in the future, so in order to make sure that the liberty of the people was protected for future generations, they added this. therefore, if anything needed to be changed, it could somehow...yet at the same time it remained a secure and protected foundation for the country and government.
