Whats the difference between affect and effect

OpenStudy (timbo5lice):

you'll want affect as a verb meaning to influence something and effect for the something that was influenced

OpenStudy (timbo5lice):

does this help any?

OpenStudy (gtxmuqsit):

affect is something that makes a difference to something. effect is cause to happen.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thats what I though that effect is present while affect is past and timbo read second response

OpenStudy (timbo5lice):

sohal what do you mean by second response

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Effect and Affect are the same thing. The difference is Affect is past tense. Like, 'When I moved away it affected my best friend.' OR 'When I move it will effect my best friend.' Get my point?
