The Earth is surrounded by an electric field, pointing inward at every point. Assume a magnitude of E = 138N/C near the surface. What is the net charge on the Earth? I tried Gauss's Law with phi = EA, using the radius of the earth as 6371000 m, and getting 7.04E16 C as an answer, but I am told that is wrong. Where is the error in this?
