Min works in a kitchen of a catering company. today her job is to cut a whole piece of bread into small triangles. Min uses a cutting machine so that every triangle comes out the same. Min has been told to cut three triangles for every guest. There will be 250 guests. If the bread she uses comes in squares with 20 centimeter side and she doesn't waste any bread, how many whole pieces of bread will Min have to cut up?

Each triangle is Each triangle is isosceles, with base 4cm and congruent sides 6cm. The height of this triangle is 4sqrt%282%29cm. The area of each triangle is then A+=+bh%2F2=4%2A4sqrt%282%29%2F2=8sqrt%282%29sq.cm. Since 3 of these are alloted for each guest, there 3%2A8sqrt%282%29+=+24sqrt%282%29sq.cm of pita bread alloted for each guest. Since there are 250 guests, Min needs a total of 250%2A24sqrt%282%29+=+6000sqrt%282%29 sq.cm. of pita bread. The area of each pita square is 20 cm x 20cm = 400 sq.cm. Let x = number of pita bread squares she will need. Then 400x+=+6000sqrt%282%29, or x = 21.2132, to 4 decimal places. Therefore she would need 22 pita bread squares.
