Let x be the cost of the gum 20 years ago.
The gum costs 75 cents today.
Twenty years ago, today's cost of 75 would be 3 cents less than three times the cost x.

I'm not good with the explanation, I just jump on to the answer XD lol
So if it's 3 cents (0.3) less that 3*x then it should be option B?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
than*
Directrix (directrix):
Is that .3 in the B option .3 of a dollar which is 30 cents?

oh my bad, that's incorrect! Then it's gotta be C
Directrix (directrix):
Option C is what I got.
The question mentions 3 cents and 75 cents with no decimal points so the answer does not require any decimal points. Plus, I don't see any decimal responses that are correct.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
True, if it were to be in decimals it had to be 0.03 and 0.75
Directrix (directrix):
The gum cost 26 cents 20 years ago if that is of interest. :)
