Why I was Suspended ? For what reason ? @Callisto @tkhunny time:7:32Pm It looks like people are suspended without any reason.
I was chatting in maths chat using cartoon characters and i recieved this...what kind of rule is this ? \(\color{blue}{\huge\tt{Ban-ME !~}}\)
I don't know, Josh. I got reported for my NAME. -_-
@JoshKoikkara see my reply above. ^^^
Welcome to OpenStudy, where moderators moderate what shouldn't be moderated and don't moderate what should be moderated.~Tso
Lol @pooja195 I'm not new. I'm MollyNicole2015 and ThePunisher15
Doesn't matter what I said still stands correct when it shouldn't be.
I don't get you. :\
Call me crazy, but maybe it was your inappropriate language? It rather says that in the message. Go examine your language, rather than question your warning or suspension.
@tkhunny you thought chatting in hindi was a bunch of cuss words if Preetha doesn't care you shouldn't either
There is nothing in the Code of conduct that says we can't speak in different languages i thought we already went over this
We don't need to have this discussion. Rules should be followed. It's really not trickier than that. EVERY user agreed to follow certain rules when a User ID is created. Follow them. Why does this discussion continue? If your profanity is in a language other than English, it is still profanity. We did go over this.
LOL are you calling hindi profanity? YOU are forgetting there are users from around the world on this site english is not everyones first language
Sop making up rules @tkhunny i dont care if u suspend me for this if you have a problem of peope chatting in their language thats your problem not ours you cant suspend a user for chatting in cartoon characters officer tk.
tk app ko pani chaiye ;) ?
Since this thread started talking about inappropriate profanity, I really have no idea what you are talking about, but I'm glad you're passionate about it.
lol cartoon characters are not profanity you just dont know how to read them c:
I'm bringing this up to Preetha have a nice day officer tk.
..and I responded to no cartoon character. I still have no idea what you are talking about.

Right. That's what was stated, but in fact, I responded to simple profanity, in English. There really was no question about it. If someone else has invented a controversy, I can't help that. Perhaps the OP has examined the wrong posts in his/her determination.
He did NOT use profanity. You misunderstood. Honestly at this rate users will leave this site.
Everything is so strict loosen up man.
You suspended him for using cartoon characters thats pathetic. @tkhunny
1) It was profanity. Any other testimony is false, even yours. 2) There are plenty of users who do not use profanity. They don't seem to get warnings or suspension for profanity and they don't seem to leave the site. 3) If following rules is pathetic, I guess that makes me pathetic. I'm okay with that. You have a good day. I do hope you find a way to channel your passion to an issue that actually exists. This issue doesn't exist. No one was suspended for using cartoon characters unless those characters resembled or represented profanity, violence, or sexual references.
@tkhunny A question about OpenStudy's profanity filter... How do you know the difference when someone just posts FluttEr and someone actually posts the f-word? And people have gotten suspended for posting emojis... because they are supposedly violating the CoC... Pretty soon, our competitors will be embracing all the users who are fed up with how moderators moderate on this site.
We have two problems with the moderators... The first one is, that they go inactive and don't moderate. And then if they are active, they give our senseless suspensions.
And tkhunny goes directly to suspension, and in the suspension it says "You have been previously asked..." Heck, the moderator logs are so horrible that no mod can really look through the previous history of a user. Seach my name in the mod log and what will you find? Instead of seeing the 10 suspension that tkhunny gave me, you'll see it filled with every single comment I deleted in the chats and on posts. And mods will have to go through 1,000 pages to find where tkhunny gave me a warning and two seconds later suspended me. But ofc I will not forget the day when tkhunny first warned me, and in trying to suspend me, he unsuspended me from nothing. Because the mod system is messed up. And no one wants to fix it.
@TheSmartOne we cant just argue :P and gang up x'D But i agree. @tkhunny please stop making up rules of your own
@Preetha
True @pooja195 if we say anything against tkhunny, he might just ban us. And preetha is on for the first time in forever
So @QueenB.tch, you're @MollyNicole2015? And you got suspended? I think if I remember, correct me if I'm wrong, it says after you get a suspension warning, "Do not create a new account or more severe punishments will be issued." So basically you weren't supposed to create another account were you?
i was in pooja post and saw a calistor's picture typing in this post, i thought it is calistro
Danny, by now you should know that TK is safe on the internet and we should learn from him not to give out personal information.
Yeah, your right.
I know what tk does for a living ;)
How do I know the difference and can know for sure that some abbreviation actually represents profanity? This is not the right question. You know already the difference. It relates to the US Supreme Court ruling concerning obscenity. Feel free to read the reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_know_it_when_I_see_it You also know it when you see it. Don't ask this question again. It's been hashed many, many times, always to the same conclusion. Don't use profanity. It's simple.
Whatever.
be careful Pooja... you might get a warning for ignorance
You are right. I do spend time doing other things besides moderating. Sometimes, I do babysitting, instead. Every once in a while, I have time to help a student with a question. I continue to be amazed that there is ANYONE who is arguing for the right to reject rules they agreed to follow when an account was created. Why do you do that? Don't answer this question. Just follow the rules and stop blaming ANYONE who reminds you of your moral and societal obligations.
We don't use profanity. We're just speaking our parents language... And last I checked, my dad said there is no swear word in Hindi so boom! People that speak Hindi on here can't swear and is not able to in Hindi. So now we're clear that we can speak it right?
There are two historical cases where I suspended someone for reasons that turned out to be a mistake on my part. We aren't talking about those two cases, here. We're talking about legitimate responses to direct and obvious rule violations. As far as Hindi is concerned, I still don't know what you are talking about. We welcome languages other than English, although English is the easiest to moderate. Other languages do increase the burden on moderators. If your parents use profanity, using your parents' language is profanity. So? Profanity has definitions (some more clear than others). Just don't use it. So simple.
Cartoon language is not profanity.
I remember warning a user for using profanity and he/she commented that she got warned for saying something random. However, this person thinks the warning was due to the comment he said after using profanity. I was surprised that the user did not realize the profanity he/she used. Some users use profanity and then randomly comments afterwards. After they get a warning or suspension, they think the recent comment is what resulted in warning or suspension which is not true. I am not generalizing that every user is like that but these folks with this habit actually exist. Those of you who says that they got suspended for random comments, do you guys actually review your comments in chats or posts after getting warning or depend on the recent comments you posted?
Reviewing your comments is important because you do not want to repeat the mistake again and again until a mod notices you and gives you a warning, or a suspension if you already made this mistake before.
I'm pretty sure the moderator would have deleted it if it had profanity, so how could they review it? Just wondering... :P
If a moderator deletes the profanity they can still review it by browsing the moderator logs. All deleted comments are shown there.
The moderator can review it, but not the user who got the warning/suspension.
Also the moderator log is very cluttered... A troll made a username similar to mine, but they used an invisible space in the middle(?), and the system thought it was me. And so every comment that the moderator deleted shows up under my name when you search it in the log. The mod log isn't that reliable either... Also older users have more posts deleted, and the mod log doesn't allow you to seach just warnings, or just deletions.
Also another loopwhole of the mod log If a user deletes his comment on a post, a mod will not know and he'll have to seach the user up in the mod log. He'll go through every post that the user deleted until he clicks on the correct one. He'll know that it is the correct one because when he clicks it it shows what the link is... Another sad thing about the report system... Two mods can click on a report and give a user two warnings/suspensions. And the user is confused why he got two warnings...
There are a lot more things that are messed up about the mod system, and to fix them all , we would need to re-do the whole moderating system :P
and just the idea that reports all go to a moderators notifications, and whenever a moderator gives a user a warning/suspension, all online mods get a notification is a horrible system. and why not give moderators rewards for moderating? Might keep more mods active... Like one medal for each moderation they do. :P
So, about deleting profanity. I delete them once occasionally without giving a warning (frequently) but when another post comes next with profanity and i noticed the user did not realize there previous profanity getting deleted then i eventually leave the comment and warn them. I think some of you guys and gals have seen users wonder on how their comment got deleted but did not result in a warning or suspension. Well, this was the scenario. Also, there are mods who do not delete but warns instead that instant. Warning is actually important because that's when the user starts to notice there profanity more instead of just silently delete there comment. But when a comment is deleted and they get a warning, the message can still be review over the mod logs. Mod logs take longer to review if the profanity comment that resulted in a suspension was from a day before. TheSmartOne "Two mods can click on a report and give a user two warnings/suspensions. And the user is confused why he got two warnings..." That actually happened to me once and at the same time lol. It is just a coincidence and doesn't happen often. Moderators get notifications from tags, fans, testimonials, reports, and when other mods report or suspend. That's why it does not happen to often.
If a another mod warned a user, it comes on my notification list for every moderators and that's when they noticed the user got warned.
Or suspended
It would be better if moderators just copy-pasted what the user said that was deemed inappropriate. Especially in chats, they say a lot of stuff and won't know what violated the rules.
and espcially for posts where moderators take days to come and delete violations
That's correct. It is actually helpful that way. I also noticed some moderators right there own comments.
hahaha write* :P
write lol
YOu are right*
xD
May you two please stop commenting on this post. Everyone is getting the notification and it's somewhat annoying...
I've actually bookmarked two spam posts that I reported like around 2 months ago and I'm waiting to see when a moderator will get around to delete it. hahahaa
@jabez177 then I suggest you ignore the notifications, or delete all your comments on the post to stop recieving notifications.
No thank you, I still want to stalk this post like I do the rest...
also how if a moderator deletes a post.. lets say for example this post is deleted. All that will remain is the link. And if anybody goes to the deleted post -- mod or normal user-- it will say that it is deleted. And the mod cannot seach which user made the post to see what that post is about. Unfortunately :/
If you do not know the user who is responsible with the deleted comment, post, or any message, then tough luck on finding that particular comment.
cool down keep calm think twice :) then speak up
1) I don't know how to delete comments in chats. You can always review your comments if you received a warning from me. 2) Sometimes, I will delete profanity from the study forums. Once in a while without a warning. It depends on the circumstances. 3) Occasionally, if I think there is any ambiguity, I will copy and past the offending comments. This has some drawbacks... -----3a) If the profanity is particularly offensive, I'm not willing to repeat it, even if it is a quotation. I'm not even willing to be in possession of it in my clipboard. -----3b) Opinions vary concerning what constitutes "any ambiguity". 4) As always - the complete and irrefutable conclusion for this discussion, and all such discussions in the past and in the future, is that if people who agreed to follow rules when they made an account would simply follow the rules they agreed to follow, this discussion would not exist. So, so simple. Massively simpler than revamping the entire mod system or unconfusing the moderator logs. Massively! Personal moral integrity wins the day every time.
My comment was deleted.
