Don and Jacob want to know who reads more pages per hour. Don keeps track of the number of pages he reads in a graph, and Jacob keeps track of how many pages he reads in a table. How many pages per hour does each boy read, and who reads at a faster rate? Don: pages per hour Jacob: pages per hour The person who reads faster is: (Type D for Don or J for Jacob)

Need help???

OpenStudy (gabbyalicorn):

YES! PLEASE!

OpenStudy (puppylover784):

Ok Give me a sec

OpenStudy (gabbyalicorn):

no prob. Take your time. :)

OpenStudy (puppylover784):

I would have to say Jacob but not 100% sure

OpenStudy (gabbyalicorn):

okay, do you know someone else to tag to double check?

OpenStudy (puppylover784):

Yeah Ill see if she can help @ChantySquirrel1129**

OpenStudy (gabbyalicorn):

Thanks. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hey @gabbyalicorn , Is there a graph to look at?

OpenStudy (gabbyalicorn):

Yes I gave a link to the picture up at the top.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm sorry, Ididn't see that. Give me a few seconds.

OpenStudy (gabbyalicorn):

No worries! Take your time! ^-^

Jacob reads 22 pages an hour and Don reads 18 pages an hour. Jacob reads faster. Do you want to know how to get the answer? Or are you good?

OpenStudy (gabbyalicorn):

22-18?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4

OpenStudy (gabbyalicorn):

wait was 22-18 correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes. Is that a subtracting sighn or a way to show the ratio?

OpenStudy (gabbyalicorn):

but wouldnt it be 18-22 since don is first?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, are you trying to subtract? Or are you showing the ratio using -?

OpenStudy (gabbyalicorn):

well just subtracting im taking your word that its 22-18 not 18-22

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait. Why are you subtracting. I thought the question was who reads faster. Jacob reads faster since he reads 22 pages a hour.

OpenStudy (gabbyalicorn):

Oh...well when you asked me "Jacob reads 22 pages an hour and Don reads 18 pages an hour. Jacob reads faster. Do you want to know how to get the answer? Or are you good?" I thought i had to do something additional to that but i just relized thats the answer xD sorry!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

LOL! I'm sorry I confused you. I was asking if you would like me to show you how I got to the answer. XD

OpenStudy (gabbyalicorn):

Oh, it's okay. I get confused a lot in math. And, yes I'd like you to show me how you got the answers please. Thanks.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright. On the graph if look for the point where it says (4,72). The reason I chose this point is because it is a whole number and easier to divide. The Y coordinate (72) shows how many pages he read. The X Coordinate (4) shows how many hours he read. In order to find how many pages he read in one hour you divide 72 by 4. This should give you 18. Don read 18 pages in one hour. Next, go to the table. Jacob read 42 pages in 2 hours. In order to find how many pages he read in one hour divide 42 by 2. You should get 21. As you know 21>18 Therefore, Jacob read faster because he read more pages an hour. Does this help?

OpenStudy (gabbyalicorn):

Yes, it does. Thank you. :)

Your'e are so welcome I am glad I could help. May I ask, are you in K12?
