`x^6-7x^5+14x^4-4x^3-5x^2+3x-18` is really `1x^6-7x^5+14x^4-4x^3-5x^2+3x-18` the coefficients are: 1, -7, 14, -4, -5, 3, -18 hopefully you can see how I'm getting these numbers
