OpenStudy (cutiecomittee123):

true or false there is no solution to the equation csc x=-1 explain why it is true or false please!

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well what do you know about csc(x)...?

OpenStudy (cutiecomittee123):

Hmm nothing that I can think of off the top of my head. I am not very farmiliar with it/

OpenStudy (cutiecomittee123):

i think its 1/sin x

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

ok... well that will make it extremely hard to come up with an answer.... its a trig ratio... the reciprocal of one of the well known ratios... any thoughts..?

OpenStudy (cutiecomittee123):

Not necessarily

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

great so you have 1/sin(x) = -1 multiply both side by sin(x) what do you get..?

OpenStudy (cutiecomittee123):

sin x = 1 ???

OpenStudy (cutiecomittee123):

Wait so since csc= 1/sin then it just means that sin x = -1 when csc is equal to one, therefore there is a solution so it is false?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

almost.... -sin(x) = 1 then multiply both sides by -1 and you get sin(x) = -1 is there an angle measure where sin(x) = -1...? knowing what the sin curve looks like may help

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

that's correct... there is a solution so your choice of false is correct

OpenStudy (cutiecomittee123):

cool thanks:)
