@texaschic101 @ikram002p @phi @undeadknight26 are any of you available to help me with this question?

OpenStudy (phi):

how do you find the average of 4 numbers ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Add

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then divide

OpenStudy (phi):

so the average of 1,1,1,1 is 1+1+1+1 ? (I am adding like you said)

OpenStudy (phi):

divide by what ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

by how many numbers there are

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so in this case 4

OpenStudy (phi):

ok, that sounds good. for this problem I would write down the 4 numbers they gave you put a + sign in between each one put parens around all of that then show divide by 4

OpenStudy (phi):

yes, you can write it that way. but as you know 3 - 2 (for example) can also mean 3+ -2 Sometimes the second way is easier to understand. but either way works. now put parens around your 2.34 - 2/7 - 0.45 + 3/8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(2.34-2/7) - (0.45 + 3/8)

OpenStudy (phi):

only put parens around the whole 4 numbers

OpenStudy (phi):

yes. the parens mean: add up (or subtract for some of them) these numbers first then we write /4 to show we will divide that sum by 4 (2.34 - 2/7 - 0.45 + 3/8)/4 remember order of operations? first do the stuff inside the parens then do the divide.

OpenStudy (phi):

we can show that a few different ways \[ \frac{1}{4} \cdot(2.34 - 2/7 - 0.45 + 3/8)\] or \[ \frac{(2.34 - 2/7 - 0.45 + 3/8)}{4} \]

OpenStudy (phi):

ok, but they probably want how you did it. I would change the fractions to a decimal (and keep 4 decimals) so (2.34-0.2857 -0.45 + 0.375)/4 = 1.9793/4 = 0.4948 rounded to 0.49

Thank you so much @phi (: very greatful for your help
