Isolate k by moving all the like terms to different sides of the equation (9 + 54 = 6k + 3k)

k = 4 k = 13 k = -4 k = 7
k=7
9-6k=3k-54 subtract 9 from both sides -6k=3k-63 subtract 3k from both sides -9k=-63 divide both sides by -9 k=7
