A question about forces?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Say me and you are hanging from a rope, withholding ourselves up with our arms. Gravity's force is pushing us downwards. For us to be stationary as we are, there is an equilibrium of forces. Which body part is exerting the force opposite to gravity? Also are WE even doing it? Or is it just nature?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The reason I ask this is because our weight is a downward force. So what is the force going AGAINST gravity?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

what is keeping you from falling?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just your arm holding you from the rope.
