Magellan's final voyage went all the way around the globe. About the time he made his turn into the Pacific, there was mutiny on board. But he survived that and sailed into the Pacific.
It took longer than they planned to cross the Pacific. The crew nearly starved that 6 month stretch. 
He was killed in the Philipines. But his crew continued because they knew how to get back to spain from there.
