help me with these 2 questions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

what we want to do is get the absolute value sign and everything in it on one side and everything else on the other side. 2 + | t + 6 | < 12 --- subtract 2 from both sides | t + 6 | < 12 - 2 | t + 6 | < 10 now we make 2 equations out of this... t + 6 < 10 and -(t + 6) < 10 can you solve these 2 equations for t now ?

@texaschic101 I cant seem to get it. is it A???

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

t + 6 < 10 t < 10 - 6 t < 4 -(t + 6) < 10 -t - 6 < 10 -t < 10 + 6 -t < 16.....multiply both sides by -1 to make t positive...but remember that when multiplying/dividing by a neg, it changes the inequality sign t > -16 so we have : t < 4 and t > -16 or -16 < t < 4 no..its C
