Why is natural gas referred to as a "Fossil Fuel?"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they were formed millions of years ago like coal naturaul gas and oil

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know how they were formed? Under a swamp, dead sea organisms, etc?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes hold on

OpenStudy (anonymous):

coal is the remains of plants and trees that were buried and subjected to pressure, temperature, and chemical processes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know how oil is formed?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hold on a sec

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Crude oil is formed from the remains of small animals and plants that died and fell to the bottom of the sea. Their remains were covered by mud. As the sediment was buried by more sediment, it started to change into rock as the temperature and pressure increased.
