Read the passage and answer the question that follows. No matter what people say, every act of kindness is in fact purely selfish. Even large gifts to charity feel good to the giver. Whatever beneficial effects to others these gifts produce, it is the personal satisfaction that motivates them. However, this does not mean that charity does no good. On the contrary, selfishly motivated giving has done a lot of good in the world. Which word or phrase from the passage signals a contrasting thought? "No matter" "Whatever" "On the contrary"

OpenStudy (kmullis6):

The other choice was "however", but it was wrong.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it would be no matter

OpenStudy (anonymous):

con·trar·y adjective ˈkäntrerē/ 1. opposite in nature, direction, or meaning.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it would be "on the contrary" cuz contrasting means to beg for differ

OpenStudy (kmullis6):

Ok, i think yall are right. i was going off of what someone else said as it seems like it is alaborating or explaining the thought. thanks

OpenStudy (minthia):

D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would definitely say "on the contrary" also.

OpenStudy (kmullis6):

"On the contrary" was the right answer
