It's not always clear what advances a plot. Sometimes, we learn something later that tells us that something we found out earlier actually advanced the plot- even though we passed over it at the time.

A song or description of feelings probably should not advance the plot. There are exceptions, such as revealing the thinking process or a great hero or terrible criminal. For me, this rules out the description of the fruit as a plot advance.

I'm a little torn on the other two. As far as having a fruit stand, is that a plot element or are we just setting the scene? My inclination is to go to the actual assertiveness and personal exchange as the most certain plot element. You may not agree.

This is how we should think on these things. Just talk about it. Examine your feelings. Rule things out or admit that some things cannot be ruled out.

The more you look introspectively, the more you will be able to discern the efforts and intent of others. It may seem contrary to reason. :-)
