Some health science careers involve working in a laboratory, and other health science positions involve working directly with patients. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each type of position?

Some advantages (for laboratory work) are hands on and close up studying with things not otherwise understandable, while disadvantages can include not seeing the thing in a realistic setting, and not being able to see how exactly it affects people. For direct work with patients, some advantages include seeing how various diseases affect patients and their families, and how symptoms are shown. Disadvantages include possible risk of catching the disease, as well as highly stressful environments.
