OpenStudy (sbuck98):

Can someone help me with substitution?

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hi :D ill give it a shot

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which ones do we have to do? @sbuck98

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

I kinda needed them all:(

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

ill repost each and award a medal amd coins

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thats fine :D so what do you know about substitution? do you know where to start?

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

I have no idea

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thats alright :) so ill do number 1 so just fallow along, okay?

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

ok

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

Could you help me with them all please though?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i will :) that was the plan all along haha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so we start with: 6x+2y=0 4x+y=-1 so the first step is to convert one to slope-intercept form (y=mx+b)

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

Okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alright so chose one to convert...

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

6x=2y=0 so would it be y=6x+2=0?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

close :) it would be y=-3x but you got the right idea

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay lets do the other one its simpler, so we star with: 6x+2y=0 4x+y=-1 we convert the second equation: 4x+y=-1 subtract 4x y=-4x-1 correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@sbuck98

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

Okay yes, sorry my laptop died.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its alright haha okay so we plug our new equation in for y into the other equation, so we get: 6x+2(-4x-1) can you simplify?

OpenStudy (sbuck98):

6x=2*(4x+1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no you see we need to find the values of x and y so we: 6x+2(-4x-1) distribute the 2: |dw:1446510815383:dw| 6x-8x-2 combine like terms: -2x-2 add 2 to both sides: -2x=2 divide by -2: x=-1 do you follow?
