What is the sum 8/17+5/17? I know it equals 0.764706 and i know b and c are not correct but a and d equal the same thing A.13/289 B.40/289 C.13/34 D.13/17
Are you sure that A and D equal the same thing? If you want to add fractions, you have to make sure their denominators (bottom number) are the same. In your question, they are both 17 so we can happily add them. So, to add fractions, we add their numerators (top number) but the denominators stay the same. e.g. 1/4 + 2/4 = 3/4 Considering this, which option do you now think is correct?
a
It's D because 8+5 equals 13 for the numerator. If the denominator is the same for the 2 numbers then the denominator stays the same. A is not correct because you do not need to change the denominator if it is already the same for addition. You only have 2 different denominators when you multiply or divide. The only correct one is D.
