Which statement best describes the reception of the former slave Olaudah Equiano's memoir in America? The book was banned, yet garnered attention in radical and elite circles. The book sold poorly until the outbreak of the Civil War. The book was a huge success and contributed to the American abolition movement. Although the book was immediately successful, Southern colonial governors were able to halt publication after the second edition.
