AP Human Geography A. Study the map above. What information does the map provide about languages in Africa? Explain your answer. B. Explain the relationship between physical geography and the diffusion of language. C. The Afro-Asiatic language family includes several different tribal languages that have been preserved throughout history. Explain how the geography of the region of Africa where this language family is found has contributed to the preservation of tribal languages.
the map for the question
I've got the answer for part B, but I can't seem to get my thoughts straight for parts A & C. I know part C has something to do with the geography of the region limiting migrants, thus limiting interaction with people who speak a different language, causing the language to have no need to evolve over time
Hey I am taking AP HG as well, so let me help you. For A would say that Africa has many different languages because of many diverse cultures. Language is a part of culture, so it means that Africa consists of many regional cultures. C is a bit tricky but I would say that North Africa was relatively in better condition than rest of Africa, and was under the influence of many foreign colonies, so the only way for the people to survive was communicating with a similar language
How does this sound for A? Africa has a wide variety of differing languages. This suggests that Africa also has a multitude of diverse cultures. As differing cultures began to interact with one another, the languages spoken between them began to evolve so that the people could communicate with one another.
Sounds pretty nice for part A and B. And to make it better for C add something like because Northern Africa was more tribal than centralized it maintained many smaller languages
Okay. Hey, could you help me out with another question really quick? A. Study the map and chart above. Identify TWO types of cultural information that the map presents. Then explain the geographic distribution of the ethnic and religious groups. C. Define the terms cultural region and cultural realm. Study the map and explain which of these components of culture is MOST LIKELY represented on the map.
A. 1. It presents the ethnicity of the people in that region 2. It presents the religion and language used by the people in that region There are 3 main ethnic groups in that part of Middle East: Arabs, Kurds and Turkomans. All of them speak a different and unqiue language. They are mostly followers of Islam. EVen though distance wise they are really close some of them are sunni and some are shia
C. Read this article from CollegeBoards website and tell me your idea For many years, geography's major contribution to the study of culture was the concept or analysis of cultural regions. These regions are defined as areas within which a particular cultural system prevails. The region is marked by all the attributes of a culture, including all the material manifestations (such as building styles) and cultural behaviors (such as languages) that make up a particular culture. Cultural regions occur on several scales -- from very small to very large. The largest of the cultural regions have been termed cultural realms. These are the most highly generalized regions of culture in geography and are best seen on a world map. Sub-Saharan Africa, for example, is a cultural realm. Movement of groups of people around the world has influenced the location and existence of various cultural regions. We can expect future changes in present-day cultural regions.
How does this sound for A? The map presents the ethnicity and the language and religion of the different groups and tribes of Iraq. The three main ethnic groups of the region, Arabs, Kurds, and Turkomans, all have different and unique languages they speak. Religiously, most are followers of the Islamic faith. However, despite being relatively close to one another, the people have still divided into different subreligions, such as the Shai (LeBouf; lol JUST DO IT*) and the Sunni. *not actually a part of the answer, just a stupid joke that made me laugh
Nice :)
