The government wants to set new regulations that prohibit chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) use in aerosol sprays and refrigerants. How will this act help with the sustainability of our environment? It will slow the degradation of the ozone layer. It will decrease the use of fossil fuels. It will increase the costs of aerosol sprays and refrigerants. It will increase ultraviolet light needed for vegetation.
It will slow the degradation of the ozone layer. chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) has chlorine. Very little chlorine exists naturally in the atmosphere. But it turns out that CFCs are an excellent way of introducing chlorine into the ozone layer. The ultraviolet radiation breaks down CFCs, freeing the chlorine. Under the proper conditions, chlorine has the potential to destroy large amounts of ozone.
